BIOGRAPHY OF
HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS NORODOM VACHEAHRA
NORODOM VACHEAHRA Born on 17 August 1946 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Daughter of H.M. NORODOM Suramarit, late King of Cambodia, and half-sister of H.M. NORODOM Sihanouk, King of Cambodia. Married, one 12-year boy.
EDUCATION
  • Secondary studies at Lycees Sisowath and Descal1es in Phnom Penh.
  • Baccalauréat série B degree in 1966.
  • Graduate in Modern Literature from the University of Toulouse (France) in 1968.
  • Graduate in Superior Training of French Language in Foreign Countries from the University of Toulouse in 1969.
  • Graduate from the Institute of International Studies and of Developing Countries from the InstiMe of Political Sciences of Toulouse in 1970, with a thesis on education, khmerisation and adult education in Cambodia.
Fluent in four languages

CURRENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Member of the Cambodian Parliament since september 1998 (elected in July 1998 in the Siem Reap province) and Chairperson of the Parliament Committee for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Press and Information.
FORMER ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Founded in Paris in 1976 the Association of the Khmer Classical Ballet, which objective was to preserve the ancient traditional ballet dance, which had disappeared from Cambodia following the takeover of the Khmer Rouge. This association trained many young girls to this demanding art and performed on many occasions in France, Germany, Belgium and Africa.
  • Founder and Chairperson in 1996 in Paris of the humanitarian association "Cambodge 2000", which goal is to raise funds to suppol1 children education in Cambodia. This association supports in particular an orphanage in Siem Reap, which educates about twenty young children and teaches them how to make the puppets and how to use them in plays of the traditional Cambodian Little Shadow Theater (performances are about both traditional Ramayana stories and about AIDS prevention).
